The EU power grid is transforming
Europe is well on its way to the ultimate goal of becoming a climate-neutral continent by 2050.
Looking at the latest data from the European Environment Agency, the EU-27 average emissions from electricity generation has plummeted from ~500 gCO₂eq/kWh in 1990 to under 200 in 2024.
The unit gCO₂eq (grams of carbon dioxide equivalent) is used to measure the total global warming impact from electricity generation by converting various greenhouse gases, such as methane and nitrous oxide, into the equivalent amount of CO₂ that would cause the same level of environmental damage.
The steepening decline in the last few years shows that the transition is accelerating. Technology, policy, and investment in renewables are finally moving in the same direction.
Let’s keep this momentum going through 2026 and beyond! 🚀
