What is the azimuth angle?
The azimuth is an angle of orientation on a surface of a sphere between a reference direction and a line to an observed or designated point.
In photovoltaics, it is the angle formed between the orientation of a module or a roof and North.
- 0º -> North
- 90º -> East
- 180º -> South
- 270º -> West
For example, the following modules, with an azimuth of 180º, are oriented to the south:
The azimuth can also be used to indicate the position of the sun at a given time like winter and summer solstices.
